MetaVista DataServer
DataServer provides support to requests for catalogs enquiries. More specifically, MetaVista DataServer interprets a general request and access to database mapping the data using system configuration files and access profiles. DataServer can manages more target connection from different Access Server and other clients to different database and different profile access. The following figure shows DataServer interactions.

Data Server Interactions
MetaVista DataServer can be configured to support requests from more MetaVista AccessServers. For each Access Server it is possible having more target connections concurrently. Moreover, each target connection is related to one or more physical database. MetaVista DataServer maps the specific request from a client to database query using a configuration file. In the configuration file there is the correspondence between retrieving and sending data. MetaVista DataServer handles and maintains a statefull connection with its clients.
Accessing physical data DataServer makes use of the DBMS/IRS which implements the database engine. MetaVista DataServer works properly on several platforms and DBMS/IRS engines. MetaVista AccessServer handles and maintains connection with DBMS/IRS engines and executes efficiently complexes mapping activity. DataServer was designed and implemented to mainly provide support for large and complex databases.
